BASQUE EARNS ACAC ROOKIE OF THE YEAR

Edmonton, AB (March 3, 2022) – The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Makayla Basque of The King's University (TKU) Badminton team has been selected as the 2021-22 ACAC Female Badminton Rookie of the Year. 

Makayla made her debut in the first interlock of the season held at The King's University in Women's singles with a 6th place finish. Makayla followed that with a 3rd place finish with her doubles partner Erica Jorgensen. In the 2nd interlock of the season, Makayla improved upon her personal best with a 5th place finish in Women's Singles. Makayla then had to faceoff against the first seed, and was able to regroup and win her next two matches. In doubles play, Makayla once again partnered with Erica to finish 4th and captured valuable points for The King's University in the teams event.

 "As a first year athlete coming from Red Deer, Alberta, Makayla has really taken everything in this season. She comes to practice with a positive attitude and a drive to improve. Makayla has really worked hard to close the gap between herself and her teammates. We are all so proud of her."

This prestigious award will be recognized at the 2022 ACAC Badminton Championship hosted by Olds College in Olds, Alberta.
